Feelingfeeling the years I've lived
and all of the miles
that I have traveled
down good roads and bad
the mistakes that I've made
and all that they
always seem to cost me
both in happiness and contentment
feeling all of the railroad tracks
that I have walked down
and all of the rivers that I crossed
sometimes on bridges
that too soon were burned behind me
while the smoke of the fires
wrapped around me
choking me with it's bitter harvest
feeling the aches
of a body no longer young
that has not the endurance left
that it once had
when I was younger and tougher
both in spirit and strength
and every challenge
I would meet with a smile
feeling this evening
not really thinking for a change
just absorbing the sense
of everything that I have been through
and contemplating
what may be waiting around
the very next corner
in my life
feeling just feeling
and learning about this man
that I have become
getting to know myself
at this stage of my life
where the grave is nearer to me
than the cradle was
only
